|What Does It Have? |
The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) telescope is an end of line telescope originally priced at £799.99. It is the top telescope in the Galaxsee range.
First you have to find the object you want to observe. With a powerful telescope like this that is not too easy, the field of view, magnified as it is, is really quite small. The small mini telescope you can see in the image mounted on top of the Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) is a finder scope. This finder scope has a wider field of view (6 x 30) and a cross hair (like a rifle sight). Line the star or planet you want to look at in the finder scope, and as long as you have aligned the finder scope correctly you can easily find the star or planet in the main viewer.
The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) comes with 2 high quality Plossl eyepieces a 25mm (36x), 9mm (100x) - these are the superior 32mm diameter eyepieces.
The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) has a very good tripod and mount. A lot of people underestimate the value of a telescope's tripod, but a poor tripod makes the telescope almost useless. The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) mount is a German Equatorial mount. It has precision gears for smooth motion. A counter weight, latitude scale and setting circles. The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) mount has slow motion controls on both axis. This gives very good damping characteristics for more stable views. The tripod can be fitted with a motor drive.
Ease Of Use?
Setting up is quite easy. Once you have mastered the use of the axis controls it is not hard to compensate for the earth's rotation and keep the object you are observing in view. Right ascension and declination setting circles help you to be able to find the object easily in the first place.
The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) is designed as a good all round telescope, so (light pollution permitting) you can use it for luna, planetary and distant object viewing.
The Tasco Galaxsee 4590-286 (51-150) comes with the Skywatch planetarium software which give a great indication of what to look for in the sky.
Excellent all round telescope. There's also a useful accessory tray that fits onto the tripod to hold your lenses while you use the telescope. The only thing we didn't like was the lack of additional lenses, but the fitting is standard so you can add additional lenses and Barlow lenses easily.
